How to give instructions (arrangement/ shapes)

並べ方/分け方

You want to do something in a certain shape or arrangement.  How can you say that? 
In English we use the "in" or "into" to express that. 
Here is a simple pattern to say this. 

動詞 + in + 並べ方/形
動詞+ in +並べ方/形

Examples:
Divide in half
Wait in line
Paint in big strokes

"IN" or "INTO"?

IN
目的語の様子が変わらない

INTO
目的語の様子が変わる

  2.  Think about what you would say using the pattern above.

Of course this is not the only way to apologize. There are many more ways to do so.  This is just a simple guide to get you started!

Situation 1 (Arrange) 
You will have a party later.  You need to prepare. 

動詞 + in + 名詞(形)

You arranged the chairs in a row. 

row = 横列

動詞 + in + 

You arranged the flowers in a circle.

動詞 + in +

You arranged the oranges in an L shape.

Situation 2 (Sit) 
You are a teacher. You want your student to sit like this: 

動詞 + in + 

Can everyone sit in a circle? 


動詞 + in +

Can everyone sit in your groups

"your" というのは皆のgroup をもう決めたということ

動詞 + in +

Can everyone sit in rows

row = 横列
Situation 3 (Cut) 
Your partner is helping you to cook. 

動詞 + in +

Can you cut this avocado in half? 


動詞 + in +  

Can you cut these into small pieces

形が全然変えるので、intoを使う

動詞 + in +  

Can you cut these into long pieces

形が全然変えるので、intoを使う
Situation 4 (Tie) 
How do you like to tie your hair?
Tie = 結ぶ

動詞 + in +

I like to tie my hair in ponytail.

ponytail = ポニーテール

動詞 + in +

I like to tie my hair in a bun.

bun = おだんご

動詞 + in +

I like to tie my hair in pigtails.

pigtails = ツインテール
Situation 5 (Travel) 
How do you like to travel? 

動詞 + in + 

I like to travel in small groups.



動詞 + in +

I like to travel in large groups.


動詞 + in +  

I like to travel in alone
I like to travel alone. 

alone は副詞なので、"in"が要らない.

Situation 6 (Walk) 
How are they walking? 

 動詞 + in +

The kids are walking in pairs.

pairs = ペア

動詞 + in +

The ducklings are walking in a straight line.

ducklings = baby duck
