How to thank someone sincerely

Someone helped you and you want to say thank you very very so so much! 🥰  But what can you say? Here are some simple patterns you can use! 

Step 1

Be specific about what you are grateful for. 
(You can add "so much" to make it more sincere)

______してくれてありがとう

Thank you (so much) for + 動詞-ing
Thank you (so much) for your + 名詞.  

Step 2

Emphasize again how thankful you are. 

感謝してます

I appreciate it. 
I (really) appreciate it.

or

感謝してます

I am grateful. 
I am (really) grateful. 

Practice Examples

Time to apply what you have learnt! Here's how to do it: 

  1. Look at the situation. 
  2.  Think about how you would say using the pattern above.

Situation 1
Your friend came to your party to support you.

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for coming. 
I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your presence today. 
I am grateful.

Situation 2
You were upset. Your friend patiently listened to all your complaints.
upset = not happy  // patiently = 気長に //  complaint = 文句 

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for listening.  
I really appreciate it.

or

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your patience.
I appreciate it.

patience = 気が長さ

Situation 3
You did something wrong. But your boss forgave you.

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for understanding.  
I really appreciate it.

or

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your understanding.
I really appreciate it.

Situation 4
Your friend help you to move house.
move house = 引っ越す

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for helping today!
I really appreciate it.   

or

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your help! 
I really appreciate it.

Situation 5
Your partner cleans up the house for you.
clean up = 掃除する

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for cleaning up
I really appreciate it.

or

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your cleaning. 
I really appreciate it.

This is grammatically correct, but not very natural in this situation.
Situation 6
Your subordinate supported you well in your project.
subordinate = 部下

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for supporting me in this projectI really appreciate it.  

or

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your support
I really appreciate it.   

Situation 7
A stranger found your wallet and returned it to you.

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for returning my wallet. I really appreciate it.

or

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your efforts
I really appreciate it.   

This is grammatically correct, but not very natural in this situation.
Situation 8
Your partner made dinner for you because you were busy. 

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for cooking for me today.
I really appreciate it.

or

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your cooking
I really appreciate it.   

This is grammatically correct, but not very natural. in this situation. 
Situation 9
Your boss gave you some advice about your career. 

Thank you for + 動詞-ing

Thank you for advising me.
I really appreciate it.

**This is grammatically correct, but not very natural in this situation. 
or

Thank you for your + 名詞

Thank you for your advice
I really appreciate it.
